The big opportunity with Mopar was the design system. Although an artifact had been created by previous design partners, mockups and prototypes lacked consistency — especially at scale. Header styles didn't match their intended purpose, and components from previous features needed to be accounted for. Coupled with the company's preferred design tool, which had a convoluted cloud pushing process that caused inconsistencies and back and forth between development, design, and our Mopar stakeholders, the system needed significant attention. We would audit pages with similar structures, components, and interactions. If certain components were part of previous initiatives or had no presence in the live experience, we would sunset them. Another important aspect was header styles. These help companies rank higher in search results and when properly executed, can drive conversions — however we noticed some pages weren't consistent in that regard, so we baked that into the design system. By retooling what already existed we streamlined our efficiency and improved output by roughly 50%. Creating sensible taxonomies led to more consistency and freed up more time to focus on complex features on the Mopar website. Those taxonomies also helped our development team when tokenizing global features across the site. One of the last projects I finished with them was a promotional credit deal page that required heavy use of legal copy. There's a very deep love for it — some people even decal its logo on their vehicles. Historically it was a customer support service created as a subsidiary of Chrysler, and still operates within the same framework, now under the Stellantis umbrella which includes Chrysler. While I had no prior knowledge of the automotive world, I found the brand and the industry had a rich and captivating way of conducting business.
